Under 16 - Match Reports U16 vs RACS - Friday 27th May 2005
Orpington 149-3 (24 ovs.)
RACS 118-6 (24 ovs.) Orpington Won by 31 runs.

Orpington U16's continued their unbeaten start to the season, with a victory that was rather easier than the scoreline suggests.

The skipper lost the toss and the opposing captain stuck the OCC into bat, which turned out to be a not very wise move.

The innings started well, with Matt Milner (13) and Sam Reed (10) seeing off the opening attack, only for Reedy then to knock a full-toss up in the air, and get caught. Matt seemed determined to run someone out from the very first ball, both openers just scraping home a number of times, before Matt tried to run 2, when there was only just about 1, and was run out by a good half-pitch. That brought together the player in form, and the player not so in form, but with a new bat. The result was a good one, as they shared a great partnership of 80, which took the game away from RACS. Toby, with a hard-hitting 41, tried one shot too many and was caught at point. This bought Tommy out to join the skipper, with 5 overs left, and they stayed together until the end. The skipper brought up his 50, with a delicate late cut for 4, and ended the innings with 62 not out, including 9 four's. Tommy ended up with a solid 4 not out.

The RACS reply got off to a solid start, before Phila took a well deserved wicket, caught by the captain at mid-off, the batsman wasn't the only one to perish in this way. The next pair batted well together, until a mix-up caused an easy run out, which Greenly nearly mucked up. After that there was a bit of a lull in the game, until Chris Fry was introduced, and got a wicket in his second over, caught by the captain at mid-off. The number 5, then promptly came in, and went out, playing all round his first ball from Sam Clarkson. The next wicket was again taken by Sam, a full toss hit straight up in the air and caught by Toby. The final two overs at the bottom end were bowled by Tommy. And he produced the wicket which gave us our 3rd bowling point. A stunning one-handed diving catch at mid-off by… you guessed it, the skipper. And that was that, another victory in the bag.

Had we not dropped our catches, it may have been an easier victory… Matt Milner dropped 2, Toby dropped 1, and Chris Fry dropped 1. This means that Matt has retained his position at the top of the dropped catches table…
