Under 16 - Match Reports
U16 vs Dartfordians - Friday 15th July 2005
Orpington 150-7 (24 ovs.)
Dartfordians 82 All Out (21.5 ovs.) Orpington Won by 68 runs.
So with Belvedere withdrawing from the league, this was to be our last game. For the 16 year olds in the team, this was the end, as far as colt's cricket is concerned. And what a fitting way to finish, winning the league in style.
The pitch wasn't even up to its usual standard, and there were a few looks of horror as various people inspected it. The toss was vital, and fortunately we won it, and the captain had no hesitation in batting.
Reedy and Matt Milner opened up, and got us off to a fine start, putting on 31. But Matt got himself out, and Toby made his way to the wicket. He and Sam batted very well together, in a partnership of 82. They rode their luck, but they did what was required of them. Toby ended up with 50, and Sam 36. A few bits and pieces followed, and Phila came in at the end to knock a few lusty blows, ending with 10 from the last 3 balls. 150 on that pitch was a very good effort, as it was already showing signs of deterioration, from 10 overs onwards.
So there it was for us, keep Dartfordians to 149 or less - win the league. It proved to be no problem.
Joe and Phila opened, both of them bowling extremely well. Joe ended with 2 for 7 from his 4 overs, and Phila 1 for 9. There was very little resistance from Darts, and the bowlers wasted no time in running through them. Priyanga got a wicket, Nishank 2! And the captain came on the grab himself 3 for 8 from 3 overs. Up to this point, Lawrence had had very little luck. So the captain felt it was only right to bring him back on at the end. And he did just what was required, as he claimed his first wicket of the season, with the last ball of the season.
Congratulations to all the team, a fantastic effort this year, and let's hope the players who are still allowed to play next year can retain the trophy!
