To all at the good old OCC.

Apologies at the lateness of my reply. Living all the way over in the Far West of The Great Southern land has resulted in a severe lack of internet availability.... Where to start, I would just like to begin by thanking everyone immensely who were involved in my stint in the UK. To Bradders, Robbo, JL and the rest of the crew who were responsible in getting me over and set up, I will be forever grateful. 08 was a remarkable year for myself, with an abundance of airports, new places, pubs/nightclubs to visit and of course some incredible people and lifelong mates to meet along the way.

I had always aspired to play cricket in the UK, and season 08 was my opportunity to do so. After completing a draining yet highly successful season in Canberra, I ventured to Kent for consecutive seasons. Whilst my cricket returns were modest to say the least (all you have to do is ask Usain-Dusty Bolt Clarkson) I did have a terrific time meeting and playing with some terrific players and characters of the game. It is fair to say that I have played with some interesting characters, but Orpington was a very different kettle of fish. I have to begin with Sherwin, or Pabs. Well what an absolute legend, I don't think I have laughed so much at one mans exploits in all my life. The fact that his 'go to' shot is inside out over cover speaks volumes of his ability and character. To watch the grace and guile of the evergreen Sanj and learn so much from his immense ability is something i'll never forget. To combine this with the brilliance of Dokers gloves, the incredible ability of Wessels (I can't believe this guy doesn't practice) and the Southern Hemisphere style of play (aggression personified) Schmidty. Makes for a formidable line up.

In addition to these guys, to see the likes of Robbo, Viking, Horse, JL, Geoffrey, Gamey, Bradders, Bootsy, Piggy, Gordy, Moff, JN, JW and all of the other players that have been contributing to this proud club for so many years, whether it be keeping the club going through the pounds exchanged over the bar or the valuable contributions made each week with bat and ball, it has resulted in the OCC always being in the contest and being a feared opposition week in, week out.

To the young guys in the club, it was a pleasure to play with you all and work so closely with a number of you. You guys really took me under your wing and showed me the ropes. Blossom, Rat, Sheds, Rocky, Pagey, Dusty, Clarkson Jnr, Gunter 1 (Naylor) Gunter 2/P#ss the bed(Yamma). All of you lads have shown genuine ability and with an improved work/training ethic, could really push OCC into the heights of the Premier Division in the very near future.

To Stu Bullard, Woosie and all the guys involved with the colts. Thankyou for giving me the opportunity to develop my coaching and teaching skills with the boys. I believe there is a wealth of talent within Orpington's junior ranks, as long as they train hard, develop routines and keep their shirts tucked in.

I'd also like to thank Jim and Trudy for their amazing tea's and Ray & team for scoring throughout the season. I'd like to make mention, that I would not like to thank the curator. hahaha. Lets just say they are like the M25 in Perth, I haven't been run out and my season has been a lot more successful.

My final big thankyou is to Robbo for having me stay with him at his place and Tina for coming in to clean up the place regularly.

Anyways, thankyou all again for providing me with an entertaining summer. I am in the process of organising my return trip to teach in London, so hopefully I will catch up with you all for a schooner of Fosters very soon. Good luck for the upcoming season, I want to hear of Pagey running around in the 1's more frequently this season Robbo.

Cheers

Brendo
