OCC Social - Events OCC Old Boys Reunion Drink & Buffet 2009
Saturday 21st February 2009 saw the hosting of the second formal OCC Old Boys reunion evening following the inaugural Dinner in 2008. The event was held in the Five Bells Public House in Chelsfield Village, which provided the perfect intimate venue for reliving old memories along with an excellent buffet!

There was a large amount of memorabilia on display including fixture cards dating back to 1956, and also a number of photos from back in the day which showed an interesting array of outfits and hair styles! Thanks for everyone who brought photos, scorebooks and fixture cards along with them. Our aim is to archive all such information onto our club website in due course. If anyone has any further memorabilia that they feel would add to these archives then all such items will be greatly received [we'll return them to you in the same condition that they are received in I promise!].

Following the recent creation of a new category of non-playing membership of the club, "The Life Membership", the 2008 dinner saw Chris Hora being awarded the honourary first Life Membership of the club. We are pleased to report that we now have 6 Life Members, with several more expected to sign up shortly. On Saturday night, Life Member Alan Cornish was presented with his Life Membership certificate and tie by our ex-Chairman, Geoff Atkinson. A photo of this can be found by clicking here.

All money raised through Life Membership, along with Old Boy Reunion events, is ring fenced by us. This money will only be used for the development and promotion of youth cricket within Orpington CC. If you would like to learn more about the benefits of becoming a Life Member of our club then please click here for more details.

A raffle followed the presentation, which I am pleased to report raised a healthy sum [which will be ring fenced as mentioned above] so thanks to everyone for their generous purchasing of tickets. Special thanks must go to Kelly Freeman for supplying the many prizes, which meant a large number of people went home clutching a bottle, CD or gift!

All in all it was an excellent evening, which we hope was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. The great success of our first two reunion old boy events will we hope act as the catalyst for further Old Boys to get in contact with us and become involved once again. It is certainly our intention to hold further reunion events so you can expect to hear from us in due course. However, as was explained on Saturday night, the current club is doing well, and it would be great to see a few old faces appearing during the upcoming season. A full breakdown of 2009 fixtures can be found by clicking here and it is our intention to issue you all Old Boys with a 2009 fixture card in April, once they've gone to print.

Once again my thanks go to Kelly Freeman for helping fund the evening, and also to Helen Williams and the current Chairman of the club, David Robinson, for their assistance in making the evening a huge success.

A selection of photos from the evening can also be viewed by clicking here. Thanks go Chris Farmer for taking these.
