22nd December 2011 - It is with great sadness and regret that Orpington CC announces the death of Steve Hydon [AKA “The Viking”]

Steve was an extremely able wicket keeper and lower order batsman who simply loved playing cricket for the OCC. Predominantly a 2s player over his 20 year career at the club, Steve finally made his 1s league debut at the tender age of 50 and played competently in an OCC victory which delighted him. Steve was an active club member off the pitch, both in social terms, but also through his help for a number of years with the running of our colts section. For anyone who went, of which there were many, Steve was also well known for his Bank Holiday BBQs which became legendary events in their own right.

Steve left England to go and run a bar in Tenerife with his family several years ago. His sudden death has come as a great shock to all that knew him. He will be missed but never forgotten.
