OCC drag evening confirmed for Friday 28th October

It is with great regret and sadness that Orpington Cricket Club announces the death of Iris Hall.
Iris, wife of Gordon Snr [who sadly died himself in 2006], father of Gordon, Richard and Trudi, and grandmother to George and Regan, died this afternoon.
Iris, in addition to having so many other endearing qualities, was a great ambassador and supporter of the game of cricket and in particular to Orpington Cricket Club. She will be sorely missed.

Clive May awarded MBE
It is with great pride that Orpington Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Clive May has recently been awarded an MBE for his services to the Ministry of Defence. Many of you will remember Clive, a regular player for the club over a period spanning more than 20 years, who finally hung up his boots a few short years ago. Clive, one of the club’s great characters, was often seen playing with his brother Russ, and we could not think of a more fitting man to receive such an honour.

It is with great sadness that Orpington Cricket Club announces the death of Terry Markell.
Terry was one of the founder members of the OCC when we moved to our current Goddington Dene home in the early 1970s. Terry assumed a number of roles of responsibility during his OCC playing career and once he had hung up his boots, he then gave a number of additional years of service to the club by standing as one of our league umpires. Terry’s commitment and dedication to our club was rewarded when he was appointed as one of our honorary Vice Presidents.
Whilst Terry’s passing is extremely sad news for all concerned with Orpington Cricket Club, it does not spell the end of the Markell family presence at the club. Terry’s son Neil is currently the joint captain of the Saturday 3rd eleven, and Terry’s Grandson, Lewis Markell, is a keen and active junior playing member of the club.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife Jackie and their son, two daughters and 6 grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will follow in due course.

The OCC have managed to dig into the archives to find a scorecard from back in 1981. Orpington II vs Old Roan II in which Bernard Jordan took club record figures of 15.2 overs 4 maidens 22 runs 10 wickets. (including 4 wickets in 4 balls!)

Dennis, a fanatical and devoted support of the OCC, father of Ann Bottley, and grandfather to Bobby Jones and Tommy Mellhuish died this morning.

Sunday success is a brotherly thing
Last Sunday, the OCC Sunday Development Side defended the only 100% winning record in the Reeder's development league with a narrow win against Tunbridge Wells. Apart from the victory, the day was also noteworthy for the fact that we had 3 sets of brothers playing in the same OCC side. Is this a unique feat for the club - please let us know if you can remember this happening before.

Come and support the OCC
On Friday 5th August OCC take on Gravesend in their annual cricket week fixture at the Bat and Ball ground. The match is an all day affair [going on well into the evening....!] - please feel free to come and support the lads. A minibus has been arranged to take us to and from the OCC and to date there a few places available for anyone wishing to come.
On Saturday 6th August, OCC 1s take on Hartley 1s in a key game in the promotion run in. Oprington are currently 3rd, just 4 points behind this week's visitors, and with the top 2 in the league being promoted the game's importance is clear for all to see. Again any support would be welcomed.
