Orpington CC successful in ECB net facility grant application
Planning permission and ECB Net Facility Grant Update
We are delighted to announce that we have received planning permission for the project and have been granted over £56,000 by the ECB to complete the job. It can’t be understated how important this new facility will be for the club in its development and once completed we are delighted to know that we will have a practice facility that will be the envy of most.
Timings of the construction
Construction work will commence on Tuesday 8th November and I have set out below the expected plan of works for the installation;
• Week 1 – Excavations, grading & perimeter edging.
• Week 2 – Laying aggregate to surrounds & pitches, Install sockets
• Week 3 – Erect Fencing & commence surfacing
• Week 4 – Complete surfacing, erect frame and net, tidy site
Given the above and weather permitting it’s hoped that we’ll have a completed facility early in December.
Dedications
A huge thanks must go to the OCC committee who have worked hard to support the development team throughout the project. I would specifically like to thank Ian and Shirley Coleman, whose work with the junior members has made our reaccreditation as a ‘Club-Mark’ club possible, this re-accreditation being a prerequisite for us being able to seek our grant from the ECB.
Fundraising
Fundraising has been a massive part of the project given the requirement for us to raise 25% of the cost of the facility ourselves (circa £19k). Events such as the Auction and Race Night got us close, donations from the late Chris Hora and our new sponsors Liverpool Victoria have allowed us to reach our goal. A final, and very special thanks, must go the ECB as without their huge grant none of this would have been possible. There are many others that deserve a mention and I will ensure that once we can announce the completion and handover of the new nets that a full list of donors will be thanked.
Player loans
The success of our ECB grant is without doubt a momentous occasion for the club. However, I must re-iterate comments from our treasurer Steve Bradford at the recent AGM. Shortly we are required to pay £19k out which comes on top of our other ongoing financial commitments. In order to keep the club on a sound financial footing we therefore announced at the AGM that we require our members to commit to a combined sum of £7,500 by way of Member loans. If you are able to offer a sum, however small, it will make a difference, so please contact Steve Bradford for more details. Given the hard work put in by so many to achieve the fantastic outcome, the response to the request for Member loans thus far has been disappointing.
Updates during the construction process
I have added a couple of pictures to remind you all of what our old net facility currently looks like and what we expect to have in a few weeks. During the 4-week construction period I will update our website with pictures of the progress of the build.

I think you will agree that this caps a truly amazing year for Orpington Cricket Club. With fair wind and hard work this new facility will help us grow our numbers through all sections of the club and to ultimately improve the standard of facilities and level of cricket that we are able to offer to you the members.
