OCC Golf Day - Fri 22nd June 2007
The annual OCC golf day was held on Fri 22nd June at Lullingstone Golf Course. A party of 20 initially assembled for bacon rolls and coffee.......Pabs appeared from the wilderness when we were half way through the morning 9 hole texas scramble, and Stanners decided to go to work instead of turning up at all....thanks for the notice!
Anyway....to keep things brief....a good day I think was had by all. Luckily the inclement weather stayed away for the most part, allowing the OCC to show of the talent of its golfers [well we have to be good at something!].
The highlights of the day were Woosie taking the course apart in winning the singles competition - amassing an impressive 40 points playing of 12. Congratulations to Woosie, who apparently also won the recent Reloaders crown......maybe now he will have to consider having another look at his handicap!
Woos was closely followed home by Prince, who came in with a highly improbably 39 points having choked on the 18th with an 8 and Gordon Hall, who proved that practising before a tournament is the way to do well! Steve Bradford also beat his handicap in making 37 points....and that after complaining he should have been playing off 28 rather than his proper 22 handicap!
The team events were closely contested....well done to the winners of which there are too many to recount here. Also well done to Schmidty for only losing the plot 4 times in the afternoon round.....the highlight coming after his 2nd 4 putt of the day when the putter was dispatched 30 yards into the long grass and him spending 10 mins trying to find it! A final well done should also go to Jason - who after a little help from his friends managed to finish his bottle of whisky in the afternoon round........!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the Woodman pub....who once again hosted us for the evening food and prize giving. The food was up to its usual high standards - even if it required some extra items to be put into the freezer that evening for the benefit of a certain South African!
A final thanks to Jacko for making the arrangements with the golf course, and to Bradders for running a book on the winner and for creating the usual questions for us to all ponder over and hope that we don't lose come the evening......well done to Dan Game in this respect....we hope that Saturday morning was a pleasant experience for you!
I look forward to seeing you all at next year's event.......[Stanners you will have to seek re-election to be allowed back!]
