OCC Social - Events OCC Presentation Evening 2009
This year’s Annual Dinner Dance was held on Saturday 7th November 2009 at Broke Hill Golf Club, our second year at this venue.

As per the norm, a number of presentations and awards were made during the course of the evening, as are highlighted below.

Firstly, after our ‘independent’ adjudicator Stephen Ingram had carried out the 100 club draw, we presented cheques to those people who had won and were in attendance. In all £950 of prizes were drawn and you can see the full list of winners by clicking here.

Next we went on to present the season's 8 cricket based awards - the winners thereof are listed below:-

Colt of the year – Alex Graham
Most Promising Youngster – Sam Clarkson
Batsman of the year – Paul Sheddon
Bowler of the year – Rob Mason
Outstanding Performance – Andy Lane
Outstanding Contribution – Chris Hora and Kelly Freeman
Top Pitch Award – Paul McCracken
OCC Hall of Fame – Ian Coleman

In addition to the cricketing awards detailed above, we also awarded our outstanding tea makers Jim and Trudi with some flowers and other gifts. Although it is hard to believe that the standard of our cricket teas was even better than in previous seasons, it was, and we are a very lucky club to have them both on board.

Following on from the Old Boys dinner in 2007 and the old boys get together in 2008, we were also delighted to award Doug Broom with his OCC life membership. Doug has become Life Member number 8 – more details about becoming a Life Member can be found by clicking here.

There was also a special mention for Brian Gallager [aka Frank / Penfold / Sir Frank Penfold] who, in taking his maiden five wicket hall for the club, astonished a large number of people! Mike Knight, who was unable to make the dinner, was also an award winner after taking his first two five wicket hauls for the club during the season, incredibly these both coming in 20:20 fixtures. Finally in regards to the awards, Jon Whiting was presented with the Gordon Hall OCC Tour Trophy as captain of the Saints side that triumphed in Leeds in the club’s July 2009 tour.

Thanks must also be given to the all the people that helped in organising this event [JL, Gordon, Bootsy, Yamma to mention but a few], it is hard work and all help is appreciated.

Away from the awards, I would also like to thank our DJ Andy for helping us out throughout the night, and to the staff of Broke Hill who offered a supreme service with both the serving of food, and also the serving of drinks! Thanks also to Gemma and Jo for helping to shift as many raffle tickets as they did, and to the generous amounts of decent prizes that were donated to the cause. In total the raffle raised not far short of £400 which is clearly a tremendous achievement.

All in all it was a great night, everyone who came seemed to have a great time and the only disappointment was when the DJ stopped playing at the allotted hour of 1am. For those of who you who didn’t come to this highlight of the club’s social calendar, you missed out on another excellent evening. A selection of photos are available by clicking here [thanks must go to the Watts for the taking of these pictures!]

As is becoming traditional, special thanks to the Games for hosting the after party. We even managed to improve upon the 5am finish of last year!

See you all next year.
