Saturday 1st XI - Match Reports
1st XI vs BOCA - Saturday 14th May 2005
Orpington - 208 all out
BOCA - 140 all out
OCC win by 68 runs
It was with much anticipation that the first game of the season was entered into. The new skip winning the toss and selecting to bat, as has now become a bit of a tradition with OCC. Right from the start the vet in the BOCCA attack got into OCC with the pitch offering some early movement. OCC did not do themselves much favours with 3 bowled's and two run outs (Pabs forgot to run to the end of the bowlers run up?). At 68 for 7 it could hardly have been a worse start with only about 20 overs bowled. In stepped Alex and Yamma for a match winning knock of 58 and 52 respectively. They moved the score up to 174 before Yamma decided to avoid the easy runs and try smack a tired 6 which came up short for an easy catch. Red Ink Doker hung in there to support Alex through to the last over when Alex eventually succumbed without giving the opposition any additional overs. Well done the Alex and Yamma for their maiden first team 50s.
Wessel opened the bowling and look dangerous from the start. The Caribbean style cricket was soon evident as the runs piled on from the first few overs. However Wessel soon got into the wickets after trapping their main smasher in front. There was little resistance thereon with only one of the batsman looking to try and build an innings. With Wessel's figures of 4 for
15 and Schmidt's 3 for 35 (mainly thanks to some woeful shots, BOCCA were bowled out with loads of overs to spare. Great start for OCC taking a side which beat us convincingly last year, even if they were a player or two worse off this year!
